87% of SaaS Companies Don't Use Onboarding Tools. The Industry Is Broken.

Alright listen.

Most small to medium sized SaaS companies don't use any onboarding tools. Don't quote me but it seems to be something like 13% to be slightly more precise.

So why is that?

If you're reading this that means you probably searched for something onboarding related. More than likely you're having some issues with churn/customer retention. So you know you have a problem with growth.

You've probably looked through a lot of the options out there.

The more you research the more that 13% starts making sense.

You've been abandoned

In most cases committing to any sort of customer onboarding solution will cost you way more than you're prepared to pay. It will take longer to implement than you'd like. Oh and that's after you've gone through the ridiculous sales process these companies make you go through.

You're not their target customer.

Somewhere along the lines these companies realized that charging $50-100k per year was easier than dealing with SMB.

Of course this is not exclusive to this niche of software, we see it all over. But few industries have seen such abandonment of an entire segment.

I created Sunboard to solve my own need. I've built a lot of software over the years. Once you start thinking about churn you realize that you're either about to spend a long time building it yourself or fork over a sizable part of your MRR to a third party.

Look, I get it.

Most of you are in the small/medium business category. I was in that category. In order for spending $50k on onboarding software to make sense you have either: VC backing (aka you're not spending your own money) OR you're switching from another onboarding solution.

Why am I saying this? Because it's literally impossible otherwise: Max MRR Calculator

Here's the truth no one wants to say: without fixing churn, you're just filling a leaky bucket. You won't grow. Period.

What I'm saying is that you need to get your churn under control or you won't grow. So that leaves you with 2 options:

  • Build it yourself
  • Use an established solution

Obviously my recommendation is that you use Sunboard. But if you want to spend a month building something yourself and have to make code changes every time you want to test something new then be my guest.

Here is my simple pitch:

Sunboard gives you all the tools you need:

  • Without the enterprise bloat
  • Without the enterprise 6 month sales process
  • Without the enterprise bill

We offer you good software that solves your problem at a fair rate. Why don't we go after the enterprise segment ourselves? Because we prefer product led growth over direct sales.

We're committed to building the best damn product on the market.

We're committed to helping bootstrapped companies like ours reach their growth goals.

Let the VC guys throw stupid amounts of money on tools just so they can show their investors that they're working on it.

We're not here to "revolutionize the digital adoption ecosystem" or whatever buzzword bingo the enterprise tools are playing this week.

We're here to help you show your users why your product is great, reduce churn, and grow your business.

Simple as that.
